Previous issue date: 2006 / O objetivo do presente trabalho foi mostrar a importância do processo de auto avaliação do SINAES Sistema Nacional de Avaliação da Educação Superior – SINAES como um instrumento de Gestão Estratégica nas Instituições de Ensino Superior. Os objetivos específicos foram identificar os pontos fortes e pontos fracos do sistema de auto-avaliação; efetuar análises comparativas acerca do nível de desenvolvimento dos trabalhos de auto-avalição em algumas IES’s e identificar o posicionamento de alguns gestores das Instituições de Ensino Superior quanto à utilização do processo de auto-avaliação do SINAES no gerenciamento estratégico da IES. A pesquisa teve como base o estudo de caso realizado na FAMA Faculdade Atenas Maranhense, o qual comportou sua avaliação institucional e uma pesquisa realizada em oito Instituições de Ensino Superior com a aplicação de questionários aos gestores dessas instituições. A relevância da pesquisa concentra se na busca de identificar se algumas Instituições de Ensino Superior, de acordo com a amostra definida e que são atingidas pela Lei 10.861, já finalizaram o processo de avaliação, assim como se utilizam as dimensões trabalhadas como instrumentos de gestão estratégica, o que se constitui em uma contribuíção significativa, tanto para o meio acadêmico, quanto empresarial. Defende-se a idéia de que a avaliação institucional, como uma prática complexa, requer a sua estreita vinculação a todo o processo decisório na IES, notadamente daqueles que dizem respeito questões mais substantivas para a manutenção e crescimento dessa instituição. Concluiu-se que na FAMA, Faculdade Atenas Maranhense, a autoavaliação vem auxiliando os gestores na ampliação da visão sobre a instituição e a melhorarem os pontos mais fracos. / The objective of the present paper is to show the importance of the process of solemnity-evaluation of SINAES National System of Evaluation of the Superior Education SINAES as a tool of Strategic Administration in the higher education institutions. It aims to identify the strong points and weak of the solemnity-evaluation system; to make comparative analyses concerning the level of development of the works of solemnity-avalição in some IES and to identify the positioning of some managers of the higher education institutions as for the use of the process of solemnity-evaluation of SINAES in the strategic administration of IES. The research had as base the case study accomplished in the FAMA Faculdade Atenas Maranhense that held our institutional evaluation and a research accomplished in eight higher education institutions with the application of questionnaires to the managers of those institutions. The relevance of the research concentrates on the search of identifying some higher education institutions, in agreement with the defined sample and that their are reached by the Law 10.861, they already concluded the evaluation process, as well as, the dimensions are used worked as instruments of strategic administration, what is constituted in a significant contribution, so much for the academic middle, as business. It Defends the idea that the institutional evaluation, as a complex practice, requests our narrows linked to the whole process decision in IES, especially of those that concern the most substantive subjects for the maintenance and growth of that institution. It was ended that in the FAME, Faculdade Atenas Maranhense, the solemnity-evaluation is aiding the managers in the enlargement of the vision about the institution and they improve our the weakest points.
