The purpose of this investigation was to determine by means of paper chromatography if there were any biochemical differences between the two subgenera in the genus, Equisetum. The horsetails are the only living representative of the subdivision Sphenopsida of the vascular plants. A systematic study of the plant kingdom necessitates a study of Equisetum.
