O crescimento do número de universidades do setor privado trouxe consigo a concorrência e, para enfrentar esta concorrência, os administradores das universidades devem tomar decisões rápidas e eficazes, sob pena de perderem mercado. Para apoiar estas decisões, necessita-se de informações sobre as instituições, seu mercado e do ambiente na qual estão inseridas. A fim de captar, organizar e filtrar estas informações, faz-se necessário que se lance mão de ferramentas que agilizem este processo. Um exemplo destas ferramentas é o EIS (Executive Jnjormation System). A implementação de um EIS pode ajudar o decisor, disponibilizando informações oportunas para apoiar suas decisões.Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo implementar um EIS e avaliar o seu uso pela PróReitoria de Administração de uma universidade do setor privado, a Universidade de Cruz Alta - UNICRUZ. Inicialmente, foram identificados, junto aos decisores da organização, seus objetivos, principais atividades, principais decisões e necessidades de informação. Em seguida, foi planejado, desenvolvido e implementado um protótipo de EIS, com a participação dos decisores envolvidos e, após a implementação, foi avaliado seu uso e os efeitos provocados pelas informações disponibilizadas, na área selecionada para estudo. Os resultados demonstraram o cumprimento do objetivo, pois a implantação do EIS proporcionou aos decisores envolvidos uma nova e confiável fonte de informações, da qual eram extremamente carentes, permitindo-lhes maior controle sobre suas atividades e objetivos, dando-lhes maior segurança ao decidir, tornando-os mais produtivos e permitindo uma visão mais clara de sua instituição. O EIS possibilitou ainda, um conhecimento mais profundo dos números da organização, permitindo revisar objetivos e estratégias, planejando o futuro da instituição. / The private universities growing has brought a meaningful competition and, to brave this competition, the universities' administrators mist make quick and efficient decisions, in order to not Jose market. To support these decisions, it's necessary information about the institutions, its market and the surroundings where they really are. It's elementary that we need to use nimble tools on this process, in order to pick up, organize and seep theses information. EIS (Executive lnformation System) is an example of these tools. A EIS implementation can help the decider, giving opportune information to support his decisions. This research had the objective to implement an EIS and to evaluate its use for the Pro-Rectorship of Administration of a private university, UNICRUZ - Cruz Alta's University. First of ali, the objectives, main activities, main decisions of this organization and information's needs were identified among the organization's deciders. Next, an EIS prototype was planned, developed and implanted in association with the involved the involved deciders and, after that, the impact aroused by the available information by EIS was estimated in the decisive process ofthe study's area select. The results exhibit the goal's fulfillment, because the EIS implantation proposed to the involved deciders a new and trustful information's source, which was extremely being lacking, allowing them better control about their activities and goals, giving them better security in deciding, making them more productive and giving a clear view o f their institution. EIS also enabled a deeper knowledge of the organization numbers, allowing to review goals and strategies, planning the institution's future.
