The thesis deals with the issue of EU competitiveness and development policy. The aim of this thesis is to prove the existence of the relationship between the external dimension of EU competitiveness and development policy. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first charter defines development policy with its main goals, and the second charter describes competitiveness and ways to measure it. The third chapter studies internal dimension of EU competitiveness as expressed in the Lisbon strategy. The fourth chapter is dedicated to external dimension of EU competitiveness including the assessment of relationship of individual trade policy tools of the Global Europe strategy and development policy. The fifth chapter shows the position of the Czech Republic which will be holding the EU Presidency in the Council. The thesis ends with several recommendations for further studying. The thesis comes to conclusion that the relationship between the external dimension of EU competitiveness and development policy exists.
