Previous issue date: 2009 / This thesis aims to analyze the impacts caused by World War II (1939-1945) in Porto Alegre, in the daily life of the city, considering that this was a conflict that went beyond the limits of Europe and reached - directly or indirectly - all the world. Therefore, among the sources studied, considerable importance is given to the press of the period, which allowed a closer approach to the everyday life of Porto Alegre during the war. The aim is to mainly show that the Second World War, from beginning to end, was in town. In this sense it was arranged that the four chapters d this thesis, dealing with daily life in Porto Alegre during the war, the actions of intimidation and hostility against immigrants and descendants of foreigners - especially Germans and Italians - the difficulties of export and import, fuel crisis, the rising cost of living, the actions taken by public authorities to control the rising cost of living, shortage of products from business, the emergence of a "black market" and the fear that the city could be attacked or even invaded by the Axis countries, after the Brazilian ships began to be sunk in the Atlantic Ocean by German and Italian submarines. / Esta Dissertação tem como objetivo analisar os impactos causados pela Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945) em Porto Alegre, na vida cotidiana da capital gaúcha, tendo em vista que este foi um conflito que extrapolou os limites europeus, atingindo – direta ou indiretamente – todos os países do mundo. Para tanto, entre as fontes pesquisadas, um grande destaque é dado à imprensa da época, fator que possibilitou uma maior aproximação do cotidiano de Porto Alegre durante a guerra. Busca-se, sobretudo, mostrar que a Segunda Guerra Mundial, do início ao fim, se fez presente na vida cotidiana da capital gaúcha. Nesse sentido é que foram organizados os quatro capítulos que compões esta Dissertação, que abordam o dia-a-dia de Porto Alegre durante a guerra, os atos de hostilidade e intimidação contra imigrantes estrangeiros e descendestes – especialmente alemães e italianos –, as dificuldades de exportação e importação, a crise dos combustíveis, o aumento do custo de vida, as ações tomadas pelas autoridades públicas para controlar a tendência altista, a escassez de uma série de produtos dos estabelecimentos comerciais, o surgimento de um "mercado negro" e o receio de que a capital gaúcha pudesse ser atacada ou até mesmo invadida pelos países do Eixo, depois que navios brasileiros começaram a ser afundados no Oceano Atlântico por submarinos alemães e italianos.
