The diploma thesis deals with the issue of motivation for further education in helping professions. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the current forms of motivation in a selected area of helping professions in the Czech Republic. Attention is paid to the characteristics of the field of helping professions, personal specifics and competences of workers in helping professions and ethical aspects of work in helping professions. The issue of further education with a focus on continuing professional education in the helping professions is discussed. Barriers to further education in the selected group are also elaborated. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the issue of motivation, selected motivational approaches and motivation of workers in the helping professions to participate in educational activities. The thesis includes a quantitative empirical investigation aimed at analysing the motivation for continuing professional education of health care and education workers. The results of the quantitative questionnaire are analysed by descriptive statistics and then verified by test statistics in order to find out the specifics of the motivation of helping professions and to verify how the motivation to further professional education differs among the selected helping professions.
