El trabajo analiza el clima de tensiones y rivalidades al interior de la sociedad del Cuzco a fines del siglo XVIII. A partir del estudio de las acusaciones presentadas contra algunos miembros de la familia Ugarte, sindicados de participar en la rebelión de Túpac Amaru, se pone en evidencia el clima de temor que sentían las autoridades coloniales respecto de los criollos y las posibles revueltas que estos podían organizar. La respuesta del poder colonial en esta coyuntura fue la intimidación hacia los criollos.---The present study analyzes tensions and rivalries within Cuzco society at the end of the eighteenth century. Based on analysis of the accusations presented against some members of the Ugarte family, who were blamed of participating in the rebellion of Tupac Amaru, the article discusses the fear of colonial authorities toward the Creoles and the potential uprisings they could organize. The intention of colonial authority at that time was to intimidate the Creoles.
