The objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between Humour Styles,
Occupational Stress and Burnout in a group of health professionals working in hospital
centers in Lima. For this purpose, 100 workers between the ages of 21 and 63 years (M =
35.75, D.E. = 10.60) were assessed. The following tests: the Humour Styles Questionnaire
(HSQ) of Martin, Puhlik-Doris, Larsen, Gray and Weir (2003), the Occupational Stress
Scales (ILO - WHO), elaborated by Ivancevich and Matteson (1989), and the scale of
Burnout (MBI) developed by Maslach and Jackson (1981) were used. It was found that
humour styles correlated in a mild and inverse way with occupational stress. Similarly, a
greater presence of positive than negative humour and low levels of stress and burnout were
found in the sample. Furthermore, the aggressive humour style could be functioning as a
protective factor of stress for this sample contrary to the theory found.
