Previous issue date: 2008-11-20 / This study is focused on manifestations and meanings that Elementary School teachers construct about images they choose to work in their visual arts classes. Five teachers with more than two years of teaching professional experience in the public educational system of Goiânia, Goiás, were invited to participate in this investigation. Interactive interviews were developed with the participants in order to gather information, questions and ideas about motivations that guide their images choice for pedagogical practice in the classroom. Two sessions of focal group interviews complement the methodological procedures in order to register and discuss conceptions and opinions about image and cultural manifestations. As symbolic systems, image and culture are interweaved through practices, concepts and values, defining educational and ideological positioning and creating points of view and versions of social reality. Subject positioning, ideas, actions and affections are dimensions that reveal the way human beings relate to themselves and to the world around them. / Esta pesquisa tem como foco o estudo de manifestações e sentidos que professores do Ensino Fundamental constroem sobre as imagens que escolhem para trabalhar nas suas aulas de arte. Cinco professores com mais de dois anos de experiência profissional atuando no sistema público de ensino de Goiânia, Goiás, foram convidados a participar desta investigação. Entrevistas interativas foram feitas com os participantes para reunir informações, questionamentos e idéias sobre as motivações que orientam suas escolhas de imagens para a prática pedagógica e a forma como as utilizam em sala de aula. Duas sessões de entrevistas focais complementam os procedimentos metodológicos visando registrar e discutir concepções e visões sobre manifestações culturais imagéticas. Como sistemas simbólicos, imagem e cultura se entrelaçam através de práticas, conceitos e valores, definindo posicionamentos educativos-ideológicos e gerando visões e versões da realidade social. Posições de sujeito, idéias, ações e afetos são dimensões que revelam como o ser humano se relaciona consigo mesmo e com o mundo que o cerca.
