La realidad de un país en relación al crecimiento y desarrollo de la sociedad es un factor
crítico de análisis. Durante décadas, se ha utilizado el producto bruto interno como indicador
absoluto del crecimiento económico, desconociendo las variables relevantes que impactan
sobre el bienestar humano. En este contexto, el Social Progress Imperative elaboró el índice de
progreso social, que mide el bienestar humano desde una visión holística, a través de tres
dimensiones fundamentales: la satisfacción de necesidades humanas básicas, los fundamentos
existentes para que sus ciudadanos mejoren su calidad de vida y la capacidad de la sociedad
para generar las condiciones y oportunidades que le permitan alcanzar un pleno potencial.
El presente trabajo permitió medir el índice de progreso social de la provincia de
Chepén, mediante la recolección de datos con un enfoque cuantitativo, procesados a través de
un análisis estadístico, teniendo un alcance descriptivo que especifica cada uno de los
componentes de las dimensiones sociales de la provincia, con el objetivo de incidir en la toma
de decisiones por parte de los actores públicos o privados, en beneficio del progreso social de
sus pobladores.
La provincia de Chepén obtuvo un índice de progreso social bajo con 49.39 puntos, sus
Necesidades Humanas Básicas presentaron un resultado medio bajo, con de 55.10 puntos; la
dimensión Fundamentos de Bienestar, Baja con 44.67 puntos; y la dimensión Oportunidades,
un índice bajo, con 48.39 puntos. Por ello, se recomienda ejecutar acciones conjuntas entre el
Gobierno local, regional y la actividad privada, enfocadas a superar las carencias en los
servicios de salud, deserción escolar y acceso educación superior, los puntos más vulnerables
en las tres dimensiones que influyen en el Progreso Social de Chepén. Finalmente actualizar el
presente estudio para monitorear las mejoras implementadas. / The reality of a country in relation to the growth and development of society is a critical
factor of analysis. For decades the Gross Domestic Product has been used as an absolute
indicator of economic growth, ignoring the relevant variables that impact on human welfare.
In this context, the Social Progress Imperative developed the Social Progress Index,
that measures human well-being from a holistic view, through the measurement of three
fundamental dimensions: the satisfaction of basic human needs, the existing foundations and
foundations for their citizens to improve their quality of life and, the capacity of society to
generate the conditions and opportunities that allow them to reach full potential, with the
purpose of making decisions about deficiencies, shortcomings and gaps that hamper the
achievement of competitiveness and social stability of the inhabitants of a certain geographical
area, such as the Province of Chepén.
The present work allowed us to measure the rate of social progress of the Province of
Chepén, through the collection of data with a quantitative and processed approach through a
statistical analysis, having a descriptive scope specifying each of the components of the social
dimensions of the Province of Chepén, with the objective of influencing decision-making by
public or private actors, in benefit of the social progress of the settlers in the Province of
Chepén. The Province of Chepén present a classification of low social progress index with
49.39 point, the Basic Human Needs present a medium low result of 55.10 points, the low
Welfare Foundations dimension with 44.67 points and the Opportunities dimension a low index
with 48.39 points. There is recommended to carry out joint actions between the local and
regional government focused on overcoming the deficiencies in health services, school dropout
and access to higher education. Finally update and present the study to monitor the
