Dada la carencia de estudios y herramientas confiables que sirvan de punto de
referencia para la toma de decisiones que permitan el desarrollo sostenible de la población de
la provincia de Trujillo, CENTRUM Católica a través del programa MBA GI TRU XVII y el
presente grupo de tesis, tomó la decisión de contribuir en el desarrollo social de la provincia,
realizando mediante el uso de la metodología desarrollada por la Social Progress Imperative,
la primera medición del Índice de Progreso Social (IPS) para la provincia de Trujillo.
Esta investigación tuvo como objeto de estudio la población de la provincia y sus once
distritos, donde se recopilaron y analizaron las opiniones de los habitantes frente a las tres
dimensiones que componen el IPS, siendo estas: Necesidades Humanas Básicas,
Fundamentos del Bienestar y Oportunidades.
La presente investigación fue desarrollada con un enfoque no experimental y
transeccional descriptivo, para la recopilación de la información se realizaron entrevistas
personales a los jefes de hogar en una muestra representativa de la provincia, además se
realizó la recopilación de información de fuentes secundarias para el análisis estadístico
respectivo. Es así que el resultado obtenido del IPS 2018 para la provincia de Trujillo es de
58.60 puntos, obteniendo un nivel de progreso social “medio bajo”.
Se destaca el nivel de progreso social en la dimensión de Necesidades Humanas
Básicas, siendo este “muy alto” con 86.24 puntos, se tiene un nivel de progreso “”bajo” en la
dimensión de Fundamentos del Bienestar con 49.12 puntos, y preocupa el nivel de progreso
social “muy bajo” en la dimensión de Oportunidades con tan sólo 40.45 puntos.
Finalmente dados los resultados obtenidos, se recomienda establecer alianzas
estratégicas entre las autoridades, empresas públicas y privadas, y los pobladores de la
provincia, a fin de identificar oportunidades, definir la visión y las estrategias de cambio, y
así poder tomar acción sobre estas en pro del desarrollo social inclusivo de la comunidad / Due to the lack of confident studies and tools of reference to make decisions which
allow the sustainable development of the population of the province of Trujillo, CENTRUM
Catolica by means of the MBA IM program TRU XVII and the current thesis group, have
taken the decision of contributing to the social development of the province, by using the
Social Progress Imperative Methodology, the first measurement of the Social Progress Index
(SPI) of the province of Trujillo.
This investigation had as object of study the suburbs of the province of Trujillo and its
eleven districts, where the population perceptions were collected and analyzed in regards to
the three dimensions of the SPI, being: Human Basic Needs, Fundamentals of the wellbeing
and Opportunities.
The current investigation was developed with a non-experimental and transectional
descriptive focus, then for the collection of the primary information personal interviews were
made to each household head on a representative sample by using questionnaires, and also it
was conducted a collection of secondary sources of information for the respective statistical
analysis. Therefore, the 2018 SPI score of the province of Trujillo was 58.60, obtaining a
"low medium" qualification.
This province had a remarkable score on the SPI for Human Basic Needs being
qualified as "very high" with a score of 86.24, and then for the dimensions Fundamentals of
the wellbeing and Opportunities, qualifications obtained were "low" and "very low" with
scores of 49.12 and 40.45 respectively.
Finally with the obtained scores, it is recommended to establish strategic alliances
between authorities, public and private companies, and the province population itself in order
to identify opportunities, define the vision and strategies of change, and therefore taking
action on these to achieve an inclusive social development for communities
