Previous issue date: 2008 / This thesis aims to present the uses, the space appropriations, the classifications and the symbolic disputes occurred in the neighbourhood of Praia de Iracema, located in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará State’s capital - Brazil, after the interventions in the urban planning implemented by the State and Municipal governments during the 1990s. It registers the representations built by the neighbourhood "practising’s", the means of communication and several political social intervenients, verifying their effects on the images of "traditional neighbourhood" and "degraded neighbourhood" attributed to this city area. And especially detaches the symbolic representations associated to the "bohemia" and the "good-bye" allegory, considering them as signalising of temporary and space marks. Starting from the empiric research, this thesis demonstrates how the neighbourhood’s "past" becomes an important component in the "preservation" and "requalification" speeches on of the Praia de Iracema. / A tese visa apresentar os usos, as apropriações espaciais, as classificações e as disputas simbólicas ocorrentes no bairro Praia de Iracema, situado na cidade de Fortaleza, capital do Estado do Ceará-Brasil, após as intervenções urbanísticas implementadas pelos governos Estadual e Municipal nos anos 1990. Registra as representações construídas pelos “praticantes” do bairro, pelos meios de comunicação e diversos atores sociais políticos, verificando os seus efeitos sobre as imagens de “bairro tradicional” e “bairro degradado” atribuídas a este espaço da cidade. Destaca especialmente as representações simbólicas associadas à “boemia” e à alegoria do “adeus”, considerando-as como sinalizadoras de marcas temporais e espaciais. A partir da pesquisa empírica a tese demonstra como o “passado” do bairro, torna-se um componente importante nos discursos sobre “preservação” e “requalificação” da Praia de Iracema.
