Previous issue date: 2012-08-14 / Brazil, after three decades of Portuguese rule, the nineteenth century comes to a thirst for politically and get rid of everything that reminded him of the yoke imposed by Portugal. During this period, Brazil received influences from other people, besides the Portuguese, who have new cultural perspectives, which cause changes in intellectual conditions of the country.
The English language, heritage left by the colonists, already had features that differed from the pattern of Lusitanian metropolis. These traits were perceived in terms of orality, but absent in writing.
During this period, numerous controversies have arisen by some writers, especially José de Alencar, who had intended to leave these traces recorded in his writings as a means of documenting certain aspects of the Brazilian variant, since Brazil, fresh out of independence lived a moment of nationalist passions.
This thesis is situated within the Linguistic Historiography and objectively analyzing the historical-linguistic marks that show the use of the Brazilian Portuguese language in the nineteenth century, in Iracema by José de Alencar, trying to relate this use and socio-cultural and historical context of the time, focusing on a point in the process of formation of linguistic identity in Brazil.
For this study, we examine the specifics of the Portuguese used in Brazil in the nineteenth century, and how the linguistic expression represents a de Alencar Brazilian cultural identity. To do so, will be checked also the historical and sociocultural conditions of the time in Iracema.
It is appropriate to our research, too, for bringing to reflect the approach of the Portuguese language in Brazil as an imperative social and cultural, in that it proposes to analyze Iracema, one thousands of documents that are embedded in a historical and political context, marked by the Brazilian independence from Portugal and removal.
Iracema has shown that brands present in the historical and linguistic works reveal the conflicts generated by independence, the spark of nationalism, as a result of the intertwining of history and Portugal / O Brasil, após três décadas de domínio português, chega ao século XIX sequioso por se libertar politicamente e de tudo o que lhe lembrasse o jugo imposto por Portugal. Nesse período, o Brasil recebe influências de outros povos, além dos portugueses, que apresentam novas perspectivas culturais, que ocasionam mudanças nas condições intelectuais e materiais do país.
A língua portuguesa, herança deixada pelos colonizadores, já apresentava traços que a diferenciavam do padrão lusitano da grande metrópole. Esses traços eram percebidos no nível da oralidade, porém ausentes na escrita.
Nesse período, foram surgindo inúmeras polêmicas por parte de alguns escritores, em especial José de Alencar, que se propusera a deixar esses traços registrados em seus textos, como forma de documentar certos aspectos da variante brasileira, pois o Brasil, recém-saído da independência, vivia um momento de paixões nacionalistas.
Esta dissertação situa-se no âmbito da Historiografia Linguística e objetiva analisar as marcas histórico-linguísticas que evidenciam o uso brasileiro da língua portuguesa no século XIX, em Iracema, de José de Alencar, procurando relacionar esse uso e o contexto histórico e sociocultural da época, focalizando um momento no processo de constituição da identidade linguística brasileira.
Para este estudo, examinaremos as especificidades do Português em uso no Brasil, no século XIX, e o modo como a expressão linguística de Alencar traduz uma identidade cultural brasileira. Para isso, serão verificadas também as condições históricas e socioculturais da época em Iracema.
Justifica-se nossa pesquisa, também, por trazer à reflexão a abordagem da língua portuguesa no Brasil como um imperativo social e cultural, na medida em que se propõe a analisar Iracema, um dos milhares documentos que estão inseridos em um contexto histórico-político, marcado pela independência brasileira e pelo afastamento de Portugal.
Iracema demonstrou que as marcas históricas e linguísticas presentes na obra revelam os conflitos gerados pela independência, o desencadear do nacionalismo, fruto do entrelaçamento da história e de Portugal
