functioning of the discursive genre "article", of the journalistic sphere. Its theoreticalmethodological
background follows mainly Bakhtin's socio-historical approach of
language and subject constitution: his concept of language, utterance, and discursive
genres.
The interpretive description of the article was carried out based upon the analysis of
sixty two articles, published in the opinion section of four newspapers (two of nationwide
and two of statewide circulation), collected once per month, between September, 1998 and
March, 1999. The methodology for the analysis of the genre "article" was centered upon
that proposed by Bakhtin: from the communicative social exchanges to the genre or
language aspects, given that one cannot dissociate the sign from the concrete forms of
social communication.
In the context of this theoretical-methodological perspective, discursive genres have
been considered as historical types of utterances, composed of two inextricable
fundamental dimensions, namely, the social and the verbal. In the analysis of the social
dimension, this research shows the peculiarities of its social sphere (ideological aim of
journalism in the whole of social life, etc.), and the interaction situation of the article in
that sphere: linkage to the opinion section, daily periodicity, classes A, B, C readers as
addressees, authorship’s concept centered upon social status and media-criteria. The
analysis of the verbal part leads to the conclusion that the "article" is characterized as a
reaction-evaluative response of this author to current social events, which are of interest to
the journalistic sphere. The appreciative-oriented production is constructed through the
particular dialogic relationship of three enunciating instances: the author’s position, which
functions as an authority’s argument, and its enunciating developments; the relationship
with the already produced utterances, which the author approximates to or distances from
his discourse (dialogic movements of assimilation and distancing), aiming at
argumentative-oriented production; the relationship with the reader’s active reactionresponse,
with the purpose of refuting objections, engaging him in his discourse and
interpellating him vis-à-vis the adoption of a certain evaluative attitude (dialogic
movements of engagement, refutation, and interpellation) / Nesta pesquisa, elabora-se uma descrição interpretativa da constituição e do
funcionamento do gênero discursivo artigo, da esfera jornalística. A fundamentação
teórico-metodológica inscreve-se na linha sócio-histórica da constituição da linguagem e
do sujeito, sobretudo nos trabalhos de Bakhtin: sua concepção de linguagem, de enunciado
e de gênero do discurso.
A descrição interpretativa do artigo foi elaborada a partir da análise de sessenta e
dois artigos, publicados na seção de opinião de quatro jornais (dois de circulação nacional
e dois de circulação estadual), coletados uma vez por mês, entre setembro de 1998 e março
de 1999. A metodologia para a análise do gênero artigo apoiou-se na ordem metodológica
proposta por Bakhtin: dos intercâmbios comunicativos sociais para os aspectos dos gêneros
ou da língua, uma vez que não se pode dissociar o signo das formas concretas da
comunicação social.
No âmbito dessa perspectiva teórico-metodológica, os gêneros do discurso foram
considerados como tipos históricos de enunciados, constituídos de duas dimensões
essenciais inextricáveis, a social e a verbal. Na análise da sua dimensão social, mostraramse
como elementos relevantes do artigo as especificidades da sua esfera social (finalidade
ideológica do jornalismo no conjunto da vida social etc.) e a sua situação de interação
nessa esfera: vinculação à seção de opinião, periodicidade diária, leitores das classes A, B,
C como destinatários, concepção de autoria centrada nos critérios de prestígio social e
midiológico. A partir da análise da parte verbal, concluiu-se que o artigo caracteriza-se
como uma reação-resposta valorativa do seu autor face aos acontecimentos sociais da
atualidade, de interesse da esfera jornalística. A produção da orientação apreciativa
constrói-se através da relação dialógica particular das três instâncias enunciativas: a
posição da autoria, que funciona como um argumento de autoridade, e seus
desdobramentos enunciativos; a relação com os enunciados já-ditos, que o autor aproxima
ou distancia do seu discurso (movimentos dialógicos de assimilação e de distanciamento),
com vistas à produção da orientação argumentativa; a relação com a reação-resposta ativa
do leitor, objetivando refutar objeções, engajá-lo ao seu discurso e interpelá-lo à adoção de
uma determinada atitude valorativa (movimentos dialógicos de engajamento, refutação e
interpelação)
