The aim of this study is to investigate how the onboarding process in a municipality in Sweden is designed in relation to the present and future challenges with competence provision in the country and how that process in turn is adapted within two different functions within the municipality. In order to achieve the aim, a theoretical framework consisting of theories about onboarding and concepts within translation, along with former research was used in order to receive a greater understanding. Onboarding documents and four semi-structured interviews have been collected and carried out in order to acquire the necessary material, which in turn has been analyzed by using a thematic analysis approach. The material was analyzed based on two different themes, from which two different conclusions could be drawn. Firstly, there exists an onboarding process within the municipality which seems to follow a model that is considered successful in the introduction of new employees and that should contribute to a lower turnover rate. Secondly, there is evidence of how the investigated functions within the municipality have adapted their onboarding-processes in relation to their circumstances.
