Previous issue date: 2008 / Fonética e fonologia da língua Araweté: uma nova contribuição é um estudo sobre a fonologia de uma língua falada por duas comunidades indígenas do sudeste do estado do Pará. A reavaliação e a continuidade de trabalhos anteriores de outros autores é um esforço para aumentar o conhecimento sobre a língua Araweté, com novos elementos e novas contribuições. Após observações introdutórias sobre o povo Araweté, seus possíveis deslocamentos, o seu nome, algumas características culturais, é desenvolvido o estudo lingüístico, composto por cinco capítulos: o primeiro aborda os estudos anteriores, o segundo apresenta o inventário fonético e a interpretação fonológica das consoantes, o terceiro versa sobre as vogais, o quarto trata do acento, do padrão silábico e dos processos fonológicos e, por fim, o quinto aborda a fonética acústica das vogais do Araweté. Após esses capítulos, apresentamos as considerações finais. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / Phonetics and phonology of Araweté language: a new contribution is a study about the phonetics and phonology of the language spoken by two indigenous communities of
south-eastern state of Pará (Brazil). Reviewing and giving continuity to previous work of other researchers is an effort for increasing the knowledge about on the Araweté language. After an introduction on the Araweté people, their name, possible displacements and some aspects of their culture, the linguistic study is presented in five chapters: the first reviews the previous studies, the second offers the phonetic inventory and the phonologic interpretation of the consonants, the third deals with the vowels, the fourth discusses the accent, the syllabic pattern and some phonological processes, and the fifth deals with the acoustic phonetics of the vowels. Some final considerations close this dissertation.
