Previous issue date: 2013-03-27 / Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Amazonas / The theme of this dissertation is set on the interface between literature and memory, electing the Testimony theoretic perspective, for the critical appraisal of the novels A Selva (1930), by the writer José Maria Ferreira de Castro, and Mayombe (1980), by Pepetela. The scope of this research is to carry out a comparative analysis of the novels on spot, from a theoretic approach which makes a reading of the narratives as a testimony of the barbarism in the geographic-historic contexts in the agenda: Amazonia and Angola. Initially, the focus is on the study of the personal archives representation and on their implication on the aesthetic creation process, pointing out how authorship, biographic subject and traumatic and/or political experience interweave, not only Castro and Pepetela‟s literary writing, as well as the critical production about their novels. The second part (made of the two last chapters) analyze the discourses, the social types and the natural (and cultural) spaces representations in the literary contexts studied, thinking on the limits of the language when dealing with experiences of violence and subjugation in isolated, forestry geographies and historically steeped in preconceived ideas. / O tema desta dissertação assenta-se na interface entre literatura e memória, elegendo-se a perspectiva teórica do testemunho, para a apreciação crítica dos romances A selva (1930), do escritor José Maria Ferreira de Castro, e Mayombe (1980), de Pepetela. O escopo da pesquisa é empreender uma análise comparativa em torno dos romances em tela, a partir de uma abordagem teórica que leia as narrativas como testemunho da barbárie nos contextos histórico-geográficos em pauta: a Amazônia e Angola. Inicialmente, detém-se no estudo da representação dos arquivos pessoais e de suas implicações no processo de criação estética, apontando como autoria, sujeito biográfico e experiência traumática e/ou política entremeiam, não só a escrita literária de Castro e de Pepetela, como também a produção crítica acerca dos seus romances. A segunda parte (composta pelos dois últimos capítulos) analisa os discursos, os tipos sociais e as representações dos espaços naturais (e culturais) nos contextos literários estudados, pensando os limites da linguagem quando se trata de experiências de violência e subjugação em geografias insulares, florestais e historicamente perpassados por ideias preconcebidas.
