Lobbying: economic and legal aspects Abstract The aim of this thesis is to determine lobbying as a legitimate part of democratic processes and to propose recommendations for the regulation of lobbying in the Czech Republic. To achieve this aim, an analysis of the regulation of lobbying in the USA, EU and neighbour states, is conducted. Emphasis is also put on the analysis of regulation attempts in the Czech Republic with regard to influence of Non-Governmental Organizations. The first chapter is dedicated to a comparison of various lobbying definitions which are presenting main features and similarities across definitions. Among the main features are definitions of lobbying activity, lobbyist and public officials. The second chapter is dedicated to a comparison of government regulation and self-regulation, and the positives and negatives are assessed. The difference between lobbying and corruption is the main focus of the third chapter. Next three chapters are dedicated to the historical and legal analysis of lobbying in the USA, EU and neighbour states. The regulation of lobbying in the USA has the longest history.
