S’il demeure un témoin vivant des sociétés africaines dans un monde bouleversé, le cinéma africain d’expression française a très tôt représenté l’enfance pour exprimer un destin et faire l’histoire. Vu à travers le regard du monde adulte, l’enfant devient au fil des vingt-huit films de fiction de notre corpus (de 1965 à 1999), un véritable point de convergence où se cristallisent les défis sociaux, politiques, économiques et culturels. Commencement absolu et gardien du monde de demain, il avance, chute, cherche à comprendre et décrire le monde qui l’entoure, tout en se heurtant à son adversité. Cette étude vise à déterminer quel traitement les œuvres cinématographiques réservent à cette figure et la manière dont elles en font un marqueur de la destinée africaine. / If there remains a living witness of African societies in a world turned upside down, Frenchlanguage African cinema has, since it early days, expressed destiny and written history through the lens of childhood. Seen through the eyes of the adult world, the child a veritable point of convergence throughout the twenty-eight films of our corpus (from 1965 to 1999) where social, political, economic and cultural challenges crystallize. Absolute beginning and guardian of tomorrow, the child advances, tumbles, seeks to understand and describe the world around him, while facing adversity. This study aims to determine how these cinematographic works deal with childhood, and the way they make the child figure a type for African destiny.
