Previous issue date: 2015-12-11 / FAPES / A tese em questão inscreve-se na problemática que envolve a leitura de imagem no ensino da Arte no Brasil, enquanto campo conceitual e metodológico. Tem como objetivo geral elaborar uma leitura de imagem do graffiti de Vitória/ES, a partir do conceito de dialogismo proposto por Mikhail Bakhtin (1895-1975), visando a contribuir com o debate no ensino da Arte. Como objetivos específicos, o presente trabalho busca problematizar a questão da abordagem da imagem artística no ensino da arte, analisar o percurso histórico e conceitual da arte urbana, estabelecer relações entre o graffiti, a Arte e seu ensino, e analisar as produções do graffiti na cidade de Vitória - ES. Busca responder como a leitura de imagem do graffiti, a partir da perspectiva bakhtiniana, pode contribuir para o debate no ensino da Arte na atualidade. O estudo defende a tese de que as produções artísticas urbanas se apresentam como um rico objeto de leitura no âmbito educativo as quais, analisadas sob o ponto de vista dialógico, oferecem ao leitor uma compreensão crítica de seus aspectos históricos, expressivos e conceituais. Para o entendimento do campo educacional investigado, esta tese estabelece um diálogo com as publicações e produções teóricas relacionadas à imagem no ensino da Arte, ao graffiti e ao conceito de dialogismo. Nesse processo, desenvolve reflexões à respeito das tendências atuais acerca das abordagens da imagem artística na contemporaneidade e sobre a importância da formação dos professores de Arte nesse contexto. Na busca de compreender as contribuições do discurso do graffiti e da perspectiva bakhtiniana para o ensino da arte, investiga as produções urbanas do graffiti de Vitória a partir do eixo teórico-metodológico denominado análise dialógica do discurso. Como procedimentos para a produção de dados, utiliza como ferramentas metodológicas entrevistas semiestruturadas com os artistas urbanos, registro fotográfico das produções do graffiti, coleta de documentos e visitas a museus e galerias abertas de arte. Nos procedimentos de análise de dados, a pesquisa aborda as concepções bakhtinianas para a análise do discurso da linguagem investigada. A pesquisa possibilitou o reconhecimento da significativa contribuição da teoria bakhtiniana também para a análise de imagens. Permitiu a construção de um percurso analítico sobre elas, através de suas leituras dialógicas, favorecendo o conhecimento significativo e aprofundado sobre das imagens artísticas investigadas. O desenvolvimento da leitura de imagem proposta por este trabalho foi embasada em conceitos abordados em quatro obras do filósofo russo: Estética da criação verbal, Marxismo e filosofia da linguagem, Problemas da poética de Dostoiévski,

Estética e teoria do romance e Para uma filosofia do ato responsável. Algumas concepções tratadas nessas publicações constituíram o quadro teórico que engendrou a investigação sobre a arte urbana a partir de uma perspectiva bakhtiniana. O relatório da pesquisa finaliza concluindo que a abordagem do graffiti no âmbito educativo, a partir de uma perspectiva dialógica, contribui para o ensino da Arte na atualidade, ao gerar uma compreeensão do sentido das imagens artísticas num processo que ultrapassa o nível plástico e expressivo das produções analisadas e avança em direção a um nível extralinguístico. Considera, assim, a imagem artística constituída pela interação de diferentes discursos, na relação com suas condições de produção e como elo em um processo de comunicação amplo. Dessa forma, a abordagem a partir da perspectiva bakhtiniana produz encontros com a imagem artística permeados pela crítica, pela pesquisa e pela reflexão. / This thesis addresses the problems involved in image reading, as a conceptual and
methodological field, in the teaching of Art in Brazil. Its general objective is to
formulate an image reading of the graffiti in the city of Vitória, Espírito Santo, based on
the concept of dialogism proposed by Mikhail Bakhtin (1895 -1975), with a view to
contributing to the debate on the teaching of Art. As specific objectives the work seeks
to raise the question of the approach to the artistic image in the teaching of Art, analyse
the historic pathway and concept of Urban Art, establish a relationship between graffiti,
Art and it’s teaching, and analyse graffiti in Vitória, Espírito Santo. It seeks to answer
how the image reading of graffiti, from a Bakhtinian perspective, can contribute to the
debate on the current teaching of Art. The study defends the hypothesis that urban artistic
productions represent a rich reading object in the educational ambit and as such, analysed
from the dialogic point of view, they offer the reader a critical understanding of their
historic, expressive and conceptual aspects. To understand the educational field under
investigation, this thesis establishes a dialogue with the theoretical publications and
productions related to the image in the teaching of Art, to graffiti and the concept of
dialogue. In the process it develops reflections regarding the current trends in the
approaches of the artistic image in contemporary society and on the importance of
training Art teachers in this context. In the quest to understand the contributions of
graffiti and the Bakhtinian perspective to the discussion of the teaching of Art, it
investigates the urban productions of graffiti in Vitória using the theoreticalmethodological
axis called dialogic discourse analysis. As procedures to produce data it
uses, as its methodological tools, semi-structured interviews with urban artists, a
photographic record of graffiti productions, gathering documents and visits to museums
and art galleries. In the data analysis the research addresses Bakhtinian concepts for the
analysis of the discourse of language investigated. The research enabled the recognition
of the significant contribution of Bakhtinian theory as well as the analysis of images. It
allowed the construction of an analytic pathway through their dialogic reading,
encouraging meaningful and in-depth knowledge of the artistic images investigated. The
development of image reading proposed by this work was based on the concepts covered
in four works of the Russian philosopher: Aesthetics of Verbal Creation, Marxism and
Philosophy of Language, Problems of Dostoyevsky's Poetics, Aesthetics and Theory of
the Novel and To the Philosophy of the Responsible Act. Some concepts dealt with in

these publications constitute the theoretical framework that engendered the investigation
of Urban Art from a Bakhtinian perspective. The research report concludes that, from a
dialogic perspective, approaching graffiti within the educational ambit contributes to the
current teaching of Art and generates an understanding of the meaning of artistic images
in a process that goes beyond the plastic and expressive level of the works analysed and
takes us towards an extralinguistic level. It therefore considers the artistic image to be
formed by the interaction of different discourses, in relation to their conditions of
production and as a link in a broad communication process. In this way, from the
Bakhtinian perspective, the approach produces encounters with artistic images,
permeated by criticism, research and reflection.
