This thesis explores the question of suffering in Marie-Claire Blais' novel Soifs, a suffering that is in constant tension between its specific and general representations. The thirst experienced by several characters reveals the link between their physical and individual deficiency and the social injustice they face. A critical stance towards the female condition, the marginalization of homosexuals and racism can be read, directly and indirectly, in the thoughts and words of the characters. A feminist analysis and a gender critical approach underscore the importance given to the body in the novel, whether it be the bodies of women, or of ill or exiled individuals. These embody the character's thirst for justice; they feel, in themselves, the misery of a world which they fear may be approaching its apocalypse. / Ce mémoire explore la question de la souffrance dans le roman Soifs de Marie-Claire Blais, souffrance en tension constante entre sa représentation particulière et générale. La soif ressentie par plusieurs personnages révèle le lien entre leur manque physique et individuel et l'injustice sociale qu'ils subissent. Une critique de la condition des femmes, de la marginalisation des homosexuels et du racisme peut se lire directement et indirectement à travers les pensées et paroles des personnages. Une analyse féministe et une critique des genres sexuels soulignent l'importance accordée aux corps dans le roman, que ce soit les corps des femmes, des malades ou des exilés. Ceux-ci incarnent la soif de justice attendue par ces personnages qui ressentent en eux-mêmes la misère d'un monde pour lequel ils craignent l'avènement de l'apocalypse.
