El tiempo en la poesía de Fernando Ortiz.

This work intends to study the concept and treatment of time and the passing of time in the poetry of the Spanish author Fernando Ortiz. It is our purpose to establish a link between the obsessive twentieth-century concern with time in the field of Philosophy and the aesthetic expression of that concern in poetry in general and in Fernando Ortiz's poetry more specifically. We have also endeavoured ourselves in placing his interest in time within the larger framework of contemporary Spanish poetry. That has allowed us to analyse his place in the history of Spanish poetry as well as to determine what he has taken from the poetic tradition to which he belongs, and what he has renovated with regard to that tradition. To achieve our aim, we have analysed a considerably representative amount of his poems. The data obtained from the said analysis have proved very useful to help us enumerate a number of literary devices as well as several recurrent themes that contribute to highlight his preoccupation with time and the temporal character of his poetry. As a result, we have been able to carry out a thorough description of his poetic work. In doing so, we have also tried to determine his standpoint with reference to current trends in Spanish poetry.
