While the Swedish media concentration increases, it becomes important to investigate whether mass media plays an inhibitory role in a democratic perspective in the development of public libraries' holdings. The study aims to fill a knowledge gap by creating a model that can measure whether there is any correlation between the media concentration and public libraries purchases of books. Our research questions are:- What requirements must comply with such a model?- How does the model operate in a trial? The theoretical framework is based on Bourdieu's theory regarding the literary field. To get answers to our questions, we used the method of quantitative content analysis. Our results show that the big publishers dominate our empirical data and that a minor part of what is published is presented in the media. In order to generalize our result a major study on the subject ought to be conducted. We believe that our model can provide a basis for further thesis.
