In this research we propose to have a reading of the students’ speech in the secondary schools supported by the municipality of Bagé-RS, produced around issues related to the school, the mathematics and the Mathematics class. Thus, we were based on notions such as meaning, object, legitimateness and communicative space which compose the Model of Semantic Fields (LINS, 1999, 2004, 2008; LINS; GIMENEZ, 1997) to create an essay of the Peter Pan’s story, so that we could speak about the meanings that were emerging from those students. Such essay, together with the notions of the Model of Semantic Fields and the reading of other works that have as a focus the students and/or teachers’ speech, permitted us to compose a reading permeated by excerpts from the students’ speech. This way we could show that a lot of them are at school and particularly in the Mathematics class, but their world is different from the teacher’s world. However much they produce meanings that go forward the teacher’s world with reference to the importance of the school and the Mathematics, their interests are others and many times they crashed into the logic the teacher understands the school and the Mathematics class
