Röster från Cyberspace : Kommunikation med vårdpersonal vid psykisk ohälsa

Background: For health care personnel several meetings occurs with patients suffering from mental illness, in somatic care, general practitioners and even in psychiatric care. Meetings with patients occur through communication, this can be both verbal and non-verbal. Aim: To describe how patients suffering from mental health illness experiences communication with health care professionals. Method: Four blogs were analyzed, where the writers are girls with mental health illness in the age of 18-26 years, based on qualitative content analysis. Results: The results were presented in two categories where communication provides conditions for well-being with four subcategories like mood enhancing, creating calmness, increases thankfulness to the personnel and supporting and comforting and the other category to limit well-being with three subcategories like shortcomings in the treatment, showing unskillfulness and growing anger. Conclusion: In order to make communication as positive as possible for the patient with mental health illness, there are guidelines available for the health care personnel can follow. Making it easier for the patient to create personal chemistry with anyone of the staff. Allowing the patient to speak and be listened to. The personnel should be professional in their practice, except from being well-read in the theory. To actually understand how the theoretical commands should apply in practice. The personnel should show humanity and understand that every patient is unique.
