Previous issue date: 2010 / The main objective of this research is to investigate the history of São Luiz Gonzaga Town that was, in the past, a Jesuit settlement in the Mission Region, from 1880, the year that São Luiz Freguesia became a village, to 1932, when the Jesuit School, one of the buildings that was constructed at the time of the settlement, was in the demolition process. We believe that, in the process of urbanization and (re)occupation of the ancient São Luiz settlement, through public and private actions, it as not allowed to show what was remained from historical patrimony which belonged to it, since the city belongs to Seven People of the Missions. / Esta pesquisa propõe-se a reconstruir a história do município de São Luiz Gonzaga, antiga redução jesuítica da região das Missões, no período entre 1880, ano em que a Freguesia de San Luis foi elevada à categoria de vila, e 1932, momento em que o Colégio Jesuítico, um dos prédios construídos à época da redução, encontrava-se em processo de demolição. Defende-se a tese de que, ao longo do processo de urbanização e (re)ocupação do lugar da antiga redução de São Luis, foi sonegada à cidade que nascia, por iniciativa administrativa e de particulares, a possibilidade de exibir vestígios de um patrimônio da humanidade que lhe pertencia, uma vez que o município integra o conjunto dos Sete Povos das Missões.
