A method for the computer analysis of certain melodic and rhythmic elements, such as intervals, range, and frequency of occurrence of elements, of selected musical works is presented and results are obtained. The method also utilizes new techniques of musical analysis which would otherwise be too lengthy or cumbersome to be practical, i.e., information-content, redundancy, and autocorrelation. The analytical results
are discussed and both the method and the results are evaluated with a view to alteration and expansion leading to a more comprehensive analysis of music. / Arts, Faculty of / Music, School of / Graduate
