Initial Approach of Pure Lands to become a Buddhist Believer has been welcomed by the public. It features its popular three capacities with no classes of intelligence or status, its approachable, accessible process and efficient result. Initial Approach of Pure Lands reached its height when it was the end of the Ming Dynasty. At that time, it was highly advocated by Buddhist leaders. Among them, no other Buddha masters could have such dedication, achievement and influence than Master Lotus Pond, Yun-Qi Zhu-Hong, who was one of the four eminent monks, and honored as ¡§Eighth Master of Lotus Zong.¡¨
Master Lotus Pond¡¦s thoughts emphasize meditation, clarification, instruction, and regulation, which attribute to the ideal of Pure Land. The ideas of Pure Land are primarily incarnated in ¡§Amitabha Buddha Shu-Chao,¡¨ which is spirit-oriented and subject-comprehended. Master Lotus Pond is the elucidator as well as a practicer of Pure Land principles. His status in Buddhism and his thoughts of Pure Land has provided the importance as well as influence of not only passing on the past learning, but carrying on the heritage for the future generation. Focusing on the ¡§Amitabha Buddha Shu-Chao,¡¨ I am intended to adopt the setting of the end of the Ming Dynasty, and discuss the following four aspects: convergence of Huayan and Pure Land Zong, harmonization of Spiritual Pure Land and Buddhism Pure Land, infusion of Medication and Clarification, and practice of Pure Land. And this thesis is to somehow thoroughly explore the Master Lotus Pond¡¦s delight in Pure Land. And also, hope I can dedicate this humble research to the boundless in the secular world.
