The World Cup 2006, football's greatest show on earth, is ready to get under way in Germany. Kaohsiung City in Taiwan will host the World Games in 2009. Moreover, Beijing will be holding the awaiting Games of the XXIX Olympic in 2008, the first time being held in Chinese territory.
¡@Olympic is therefore the subject of study for the greatest sporting event. Cities like Los Angeles in 1984, Seoul in 1988, and Barcelona in 1992 are the cases due to their host of the Olympic Games, which covered three continents and presented the diversity of cultures.
¡@The essay is implemented through documentary analysis and case study
method. First the index for urban growth is created by the city development theories. Then the impact of the Olympic events on the three different cities will be measured through the index to conclude whether the great sporting event will exert the influence on the host city.
¡@The first chapter will explain the motive, purpose, boundary of the topic and then the explanation of the documents used. The second chapter will be the introduction of the research methodologies. The third chapter will be the presentation of various cases of the city development and its related studies. The fourth chapter will analyze in depth the influence of the Games on cities of Los Angeles, Seoul, and Barcelona. The fifth chapter will be focusing on the suggestions generated from the finding, as well as the future study prospect.
¡@The study has found out that the Olympic Games have had tremendous impact on
the host cities. Through Olympic, Los Angeles has established its status as the metropolitan of commercial center. Seoul has become a first class international city. Barcelona has made itself one of the most popular tourist spot. Moreover, the study has found that the host cities could accomplish the best result by:
¡@1. Setting the target and strategy for the city development project,
¡@2. Deciding the allocation the resources and its magnitude in the process,
¡@3. Evaluation of the benefit from different sporting events to the city,
¡@4. Create the index for the resource allocation as apposed to the city development,
¡@5. Finding the subjective and objective conditions for forming a new city,
¡@6. Examining and making adjustment to the model, and
¡@7. Re-setting the target and strategy for the newly constructed city.
