Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The study of landscape has contemplated here different looks on the (re)construction of the geographic space of Carmópolis through forms of long duration. First, it was constructed a
reading of physiology of the visible forms perceived by the individuals throughout the time. After that, it was undertaken an attempt of theoretical reconstitution of the direction and
meaning of the categories, landscape and place as basic conceptual units for the geographic analysis, for excellence, therefore they dialectically dialogue among them and are in the interface between nature and society. The landscape was apprehended while a resultant of legacies or present forces, or forces from the past and the place was understood and taken as being the space of experience of the men. This way, the transformation of the natural landscape of Carmópolis, as well as the lived space the place suffered remarkable
impacts that were caused by the development of economic activities that contributed, decisively, for the organization of the geographic space of the city the agro-industrial
activity (the sugar cane and coconut-from-bahia) and the mineral extractive activity of the oil. Such landscape has suffered surprising impacts since 1960, with the discovery of the oil. The PETROBRAS was, this way, the main agent of transformation of the landscape and the lived space of that place. This way, it is necessary to reevaluate the model of the
implanted development and try to argue it, using rational ways and principle that contribute for the human development, and not only consider the perception of the residents but, also their yearnings and contributions when decidin. / O estudo da paisagem contemplou aqui diferentes olhares sobre a (re)construção do espaço geográfico de Carmópolis através das formas de longa duração. A princípio, foi construída uma leitura da fisiologia das formas visíveis percebidas pelos indivíduos ao longo do tempo. Em seguida, empreendeu-se uma tentativa de reconstituição teórica do sentido e significado das categorias paisagem e lugar enquanto unidades conceituais fundamentais para a análise geográfica, por excelência, pois dialogam dialeticamente entre si e se situam na interface entre natureza e sociedade. A paisagem aqui foi apreendida enquanto uma resultante de legados ou forças atuais e do passado, e o lugar foi entendido e tomado como sendo o espaço de vivência dos homens. Nesse sentido, a transformação da paisagem natural de Carmópolis, bem como o espaço vivido o lugar , sofreu impactos marcantes que foram ocasionados pelo desenvolvimento de atividades econômicas que contribuíram,
decisivamente, para a organização do espaço geográfico do município a atividade agroindustrial (a cana-de-açúcar e o coco-da-baía) e a atividade extrativa mineral do petróleo. Tal paisagem sofreu impactos surpreendentes desde os anos de 1960, com a descoberta do petróleo. A PETROBRAS foi, dessa forma, o principal agente de transformação da paisagem e do espaço vivido daquele lugar. Desse modo, se faz necessário re-avaliar o modelo de desenvolvimento implantado e procurar discutir, através de meios racionais, princípios que contribuam para o desenvolvimento humano e levem em conta não apenas a percepção dos residentes mas também os seus anseios e contribuições nas tomadas de decisões.
