Previous issue date: 2000 / Resumo: A investigação da produção científICa vem se desenvolvendo muito nos últimos aros, especialmente no âmbito da pesquisa em saúde. O presente trabalho consiste em uma revisão da produção científica de uma nova área da Psicologia denominada Psicologia da Saúde. Tal revisão foi realizada a partir da análise temática (classificação e quantificação) de uma amostragem de artigos referentes ao período de 1987 a 1996, provenientes de quatro periódicos: Health Psychology, Social Science and Medicine, Psychology and Health e Joumal of Health and Social Behavior, totalizando 438 documentos (resumos). Buscou-se sistematizar essa produção científica, com o intuito de verificar o estado da arte dessa nova disciplina. Para tanto, foram criadas quatro categorias para a análise, que são as seguintes: Cuidados de Saúde, Processo Saúde/Doença, Profissionais de Saúde e Carreiras em Saúde. Em seguida, durante a análise dos resumos de artigos, foram criadas subcategorias que descrevessem características mais específicas do tema pesquisado. A idéia de realizar esse trabalho foi amplamente influenciada pelas formulações teóricas de Pierre Bourdieu a respeito do funcionamento dos campos; no entanto, ao analisar os resumos de artigos constatou-se que esse referencial teórico não seria totalmente adequado às características do material. Dessa forma, as discussões a respeito da Psicologia da Saúde foram orientadas por autores que abordaram questões relacionadas ao conhecimento científico e sobre o próprio campo da Psicologia da Saúde. Os resultados obtidos descrevem uma grande dispersão temática dessa produção científica. Essa falta de especificidad~ do campo parece refletir uma falta de identidade; em outras palavras, esse parece ser um campo ainda sem delimitações. Por fim, argumenta-se que essa disciplina ainda não -está consolidada; trata-se, na verdade, de um novo campo de inserção do psicólogo, no qual se aplicam os instrumentais da psicologia tradicional. De outro lado, embora já existam alguns referenciais teóricos específicos dessa disciplina, estes não são utilizados na grande maioria dos trabalhos / Abstract: The increasing of the investigation on the scientific production has been intensive, in the last years, especially when related to the research in the health area. This work consists in a review of the scientific production in the new area called Health Psychology. The review was developed based' on the thematical analysis (categories and quantity) by sampling published articles since 1987 until 1996, from the following journals: Health Psychology, Social Science and Medicine, Psychology and Health and Journal of Health and Social Behavior, reaching a total of 438 documents (abstracts). The aim of this work was to organize this production in the following categories: Health Care, Health-disease process, Health Professionals, and Health Careers. Afier this, during the analysis of the documents several undercategories were created in arder to describe more specific characteristics, of the subject under investigation. Is important to emphasize the influence of the theoretical construction of Pierre Bourdieu concerning to the functioning of the scientific field in the conception of this work. However, the proceeding of the analysis have showed that such foundations were not the most adequate for handling the subject being studied. For this reason, the discussions respecting "Health Psychology were oriented by authors who have worked on matters related to the scientific knowledge and in, the field of the health psychology itself. The results show a large thematical dispersion of such scientific production. This lack of a field specificity seems to reflect an absence of identity; in other words, this seems to be a field still without clear delimitations. Finally, is argued that this discipline not well consolidated being, as a matter of fact, a new professional field for psychologists, where traditional methods of Psychology are employed. On the other hand, there are specific theoretical models concerned to this which, however, are not used in most of the cases / Mestrado / Saude Mental / Mestre em Ciências Médicas
