Devising and montage : the use of physical actions to create (re)conceptual performance

D.Tech. Drama and Film Studies Tshwane University of Technology 2012. / This study specifically investigates the collaborative, creative and interpretive qualities associated with physical performance. As practice-based research, this study reflects on the author's creative working-process in order to clarify the use of various strategies accessed during the creative process. this is done in order to improve and streamline the use of the strategies themselves and to improve the quality of the outputs.This study charts the multifaceted explorations in the devising and montage process with particular reference to the following areas; the expressive performer, physical theatre and conceptualization as expressive narrative tool, perception of space and time and the spectator as a sentient participant. the aim of this study is to apply practice-based research through self reflection and assessment of the devising and montage of the author's working process; to propose a model of devising and montage process as an effective performance narrative approach to (re) conceptual contemporary performance termed warping.
