Dissertation thesis on "A Model to Evaluate the regional Competitiveness of the EU regions NUTS II" is focused on the evaluation of socio-economic situation within the European regions with the aim to enhance a regional competitiveness and to develop practical tools in order to enable its measurement. In order to deepen and to develop knowledge in this thematic field the dissertation thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is focused on the competitiveness of nations, competitiveness of regions, main economic theories within the context of regional development, the evolution of EU Regional Policy concept and main models to evaluate the socio-economic situation within the regions. The practical part deals with the definition of the key factors of regional competitiveness and the configuration of such a model which is based on the competitiveness index to enable relative comparison of the regional socio-economic situation and the level of regional competitiveness. Key factors of regional competitiveness are defined on the base of situational analysis of current knowledge in this area. A Model to Evaluate the Regional Competitiveness of the EU regions NUTS II is designed on the base of existing evaluation model of competitiveness, which was created by team of Romanian economists. The analysis of the model is based on the use of specific indicators from EUROSTAT regional database. In order to achieve optimum results there is suggested a modification of the model in the thesis so as to ensure its practical use by regional stakeholders.
