Previous issue date: 2005 / Resumo: O objetivo desta tese é investigar a aquisição da sintaxe da negação no português brasileiro (PB) como segunda língua, por falantes adultos. O referencial teórico para sua realização é fornecido pela Teoria de Princípios e Parâmetros em seus desenvolvimentos mais recentes. Os dados, com acompanhamento longitudinal, foram coletados de estágios iniciais da fala de informantes adultos em processo de aquisição do PB. Um dos objetivos foi verificar como a aquisição da negação se dá, através da análise dos dados e pelo estudo das características relacionadas ao surgimento da posição da negação e da concordância negativa na L2. O acompanhamento da aquisição por falantes de línguas semelhantes ao português foi feito com o objetivo de testar se o estado inicial (S0) desses falantes era a L1, o que se confirmou. Percebemos que, no caso de falantes bilíngües, as estruturas das duas línguas envolvidas são utilizadas, através de um processo que confirma a hipótese de S0= L1. No caso de línguas que são [-CN], observou-se que houve uma substituição do parâmetro para a opção [+CN], com fases bem distintas. Concluímos que os falantes se apóiam na evidência do estatuto de Neg, em XP, para determinar a ausência de concordância negativa. A negação no núcleo indica possibilidade de concordância negativa nas línguas. Observou-se, também, que a ordem desenvolvimental constatada em um trabalho anterior, na aquisição do PB como L1, se repete, quando o PB é uma L2, indicando, assim, que a língua que está sendo adquirida impõe uma certa ordem na aquisição da negação / Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the acquisition of the syntax of negation in Brazilian Portuguese (BP), by adult learners. The theoretical background is provided by the recent development of the Principles and Parameters Theory. The data, with a longitudinal follow-up, were collected from the informants¿ initial stages in the acquisition process. One of the objectives of the present study was to find out how the acquisition of negation takes place, through the analysis of data and, through the study of characteristics related to the emergence of the negation position, as well as to the emergence of the negative concord (NC) in the L2. The follow-up of subjects whose L1s are similar to Portuguese was done with the aim of testing if those informants' initial state (S0) was their L1, what has been confirmed. We noticed that, in the case of bilingual informants, the structures of the two languages involved are used, in a process that validates the hypothesis of S0 = L1. In the case of languages that are [-NC], it was observed that there was a substitution of the parameter for the option [+NC], with well distinct phases. We conclude that the informants rely on the evidence of the Neg position, in XP, to determine the absence of the negative concord. Negation in the head position indicates possibility of negative concord in languages. It has also been observed, that the developmental order verified, in a previous paper, on the acquisition of Brazilian Portuguese as an L1 is confirmed when BP is an L2, thus indicating that the language being acquired imposes a certain order in the acquisition of negation / Doutorado / Linguistica / Doutor em Linguística
