Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The agricultural and livestock activities have been passing through important transformations, having the understanding of the rural space constantly reviewed to
understand the territorial dynamics. It can be said that the field is re-drawn and it is reorganized at the same time new economical factors show up, restructuring the space cuttings. In that context, the work had as study focus the territorial unit of Mata/RS, due to the importance of the primary activities in its social and spatial organization, once these are constituted in the foundation of its economical source. Following this reasoning line, the specific objectives of the research sought: (a) to verify the evolution and the current situation of the agriculture and of the livestock in the Municipal district, in study in the temporary scale
1970 - 2007; (b) to analyze the different productive chains and their importance as restructural agents in the organization of the rural space and in the local and regional economical development; (c) to demonstrate the new agricultural activities of production, the alternatives of income in the agricultural establishments, the processes of improvement of the products in the Municipal district and its influence in spatial arrangements and in local economy and (d) to evaluate the modernization degree presented by the agricultural
activities in the territorial unit in study. Methodologically, the research accomplished, initially,
further analysis of the theoretical matrix regarding the thematic in analysis. Later, collections of data were elaborated in primary sources (field work) and in secondary sources, through data of the agricultural censuses (IBGE) and of FEE. The field work took place through interviews, which were subsidized by questionnaires that assisted the different selected
informers. These were addressed the rural proprietors; to the public organs as the Municipal Department of Agriculture, Union of the Rural Workers, EMATER and to the industries' owners for the improvement of Mata. As final consideration, it's pointed out that the productive section of Mata is re-organizing front to the new dynamics imposed by capital, through traditional productive chains as Beef Cattle, rice, tobacco, soy and corn, which seek,
through a modern production, to improve the quality of its products and, consequently, to interfere in the local/regional market. Besides this productive reorganization, the dynamics of the rural space is also due to the revitalization of the milk chain and the insert of new productive chains that boost the local economy. The new economical factors are represented by the cultivation of walnuts, valorization of the cachaça stills (sugarcane brandy), rural tourism and, in some rural establishments, the presence of vegetable and fruit grangers. At
the same time, other activities can be found, such as carpentry, furniture factory, museum, among others, which seek to add value to the family agriculture. It is emphasized that the spatial organization of Mata is due to reflexes of the different developed agricultural activities, once it is that section that moves the urban space. In that way, the rural space is the fundamental element to promote the local/regional development of the municipal district. / As atividades agropecuárias têm passado por importantes transformações, fazendo com que a compreensão do espaço rural seja constantemente revista para se entender as dinâmicas territoriais. Pode-se dizer, então, que o campo se redesenha e se reorganiza na medida em que novos atores econômicos se manifestam, reestruturando os recortes espaciais. Nesse contexto, o trabalho teve como foco de estudo a unidade territorial de Mata/RS, em decorrência da importância das atividades primárias na sua organização socioespacial, uma vez que estas se constituem no alicerce da sua matriz econômica. Nessa linha de raciocínio, os objetivos específicos da pesquisa buscaram: (a) verificar a evolução e a situação atual da agricultura e da pecuária no Município, em estudo na escala temporal 1970 2007; (b)
analisar as distintas cadeias produtivas e sua importância como agente reestruturador na organização do espaço rural e no desenvolvimento econômico local/regional; (c) demonstrar
as novas atividades agrícolas de produção, as alternativas de renda nos estabelecimentos agropecuários, os processos de beneficiamento dos produtos no Município e a sua influência nos arranjos espaciais e na economia local e (d) avaliar o grau de modernização apresentado pelas atividades agropecuárias na unidade territorial em estudo. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa realizou, inicialmente, um aprofundamento da matriz teórica referente à temática em análise. Posteriormente, elaboraram-se coletas de dados em fontes primárias (trabalho de campo) e em fontes secundárias, via dados dos censos
agropecuários (IBGE) e da FEE. O trabalho de campo realizou-se através de entrevistas, as quais foram subsidiadas por questionários que atendiam aos distintos informantes
selecionados. Estas foram direcionadas aos proprietários rurais; aos órgãos públicos como a Secretaria Municipal de Agricultura, Sindicato dos Trabalhadores Rurais, EMATER e aos
proprietários das indústrias de beneficiamento de Mata. Como consideração final, aponta-se que o setor produtivo de Mata está se reorganizando frente às novas dinâmicas impostas
pelo capital, através de cadeias produtivas tradicionais como a pecuária de corte, o arroz, o fumo, a soja e o milho, as quais buscam, através de uma produção moderna, melhorar a
qualidade de seus produtos e, consequentemente, se inserir no mercado local/regional. Além dessa reorganização produtiva, a dinamização do espaço rural ocorre também pela
revitalização da bacia leiteira e da inserção de novas cadeias produtivas que impulsionam a economia local. Os novos atores econômicos são representados pelo cultivo de nogueiras,
valorização dos alambiques de cachaça, o turismo rural e, em alguns estabelecimentos rurais, a presença de hortifrutigranjeiros. Paralelamente, encontram-se no espaço rural do Município outras atividades como marcenarias, fábricas de móveis, museu, entre outros, as quais buscam agregar valor à agricultura familiar. Enfatiza-se que a organização espacial de Mata é decorrente dos reflexos das distintas atividades agropecuárias desenvolvidas, uma
vez que é esse setor que move o espaço urbano. Dessa forma, o espaço rural é o elemento fundamental para promover o desenvolvimento local/regional do município.
