Orientador: Maria Aparecida Viggiani Bicudo / Banca: Antonio Vicente Marafioti Garnica / Banca: Luis Mauricio Martins de Resende / Banca: Marcius Fantozzi Giorgetti / Banca: Ubiratan D'Ambrosio / Resumo: Este estudo tem por meta desvelar os modos pelos quais a ciência, a técnica, a tecnologia e a produção se presentificam e se mantém no Curso Superior de Tecnologia em Fabricação Mecânica, contribuindo, assim, para a definição da identidade dessa graduação efetuada no âmbito da Educação Profissional. A metodologia assumida foi a da Pesquisa Qualitativa Fenomenológica na modalidade "estrutura do fenômeno situado". A interrogação o que é isto, o Curso Superior de Tecnologia em Fabricação Mecânica? orientou a investigação que, de início, apontou dois estudos teóricos: um sobre modos de realização da ciência contemporânea; outro sobre os documentos que anunciam características da instituição e concepções em que ela se ancora para sua ação político-pedagógica - Projeto Político- Pedagógico Instituicional (PPI)- e os que tratam da organização do Curso, dados nos Projetos Pedagógicos desde sua oferta inicial, em 1999, com as atualizações efetuadas até 2008. Com o intuito de conhecer mais dimensões dessa graduação e aprofundar nas já emersas, o estudo direcionou-se à compreensão da prática docente e daquela realizada no exercício da profissão. Foram ouvidos professores e empresas a respeito da compreensão que têm do curso e do trabalho do tecnólogo em fabricação mecânica, respectivamente. Os depoimentos foram transcritos e analisados em dois momentos: análise ideográfica - onde houve o destaque das ideias individuais expostas nos discursos, utilizando-se dos recursos da hermenêutica- e a análise nomotética- que, ao partir das ideias já evidenciadas, caminhou ao encontro de características gerais sobre o curso, ou seja, da estrutura do fenômeno. O movimento efetuado durante as análises ideográfica e nomotética desvelou articulações que constituíram as categorias abertas: A fabricação mecânica como área de formação... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: This study aims to uncover ways in which science, technique, technology and production are present and maintained within the Mechanical Manufacturing Technology Course, contributing to define the identity of this undergraduation carried out within Professional Education. The methodology taken was the Phenomenological Qualitative Research with a "situated structure of the phenomenon" modality. The interrogation "what is this, the Course of Technology in Mechanical Fabrication?" has driven the research which, at first, pointed out two theoretical studies: the first one on ways of carrying out contemporary science, and the other one on documents that announce features and concepts of the institution in which its political-educational actions are anchored - Political-Pedagogical Institutional Project (PPI) - and the ones that deal with the organization of the course, given within the pedagogical projects since its initial offering in 1999, with updates made until 2008. Aiming to know more dimensions of this undergraduation course and to deepen the ones that have already emerged, the study was directed to the understanding of teaching practice and of that held in the profession itself. We also listened to teachers and companies who have an understanding of the course and the work of the technologist in the mechanical production, respectively. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed in two stages: firstly, an ideographic analysis - when the ideas set out in individual speeches were highlighted using resources of hermeneutics - and then, a nomothetic analysis, based on the ideas already brought out, moved to meet general characteristics about the course, the structure of the phenomenon.
