Previous issue date: 2015-02-03 / The picturesque Bixiga district carries a large repertoire for the imagination of the population
who inhabits and attends the region. For some people the neighborhood of Italian
immigrants, for others the neighborhood of escaped black slaves. It is seen as a traditional
neighborhood of the city.
It´s a rich and fertile territory in the center of the city that suffers from degradation and
latency for projects that leverage their development. Over time we observed some initiatives
that demonstrated concern for the future of the district, such as the projects of Parque da
Grota, do Concurso Nacional de Ideias para a Renovação Urbana e Preservação do Bixiga and
Programa Casa Paulista. Three projects in three different periods that shows how the way of
a thinking has evolved over the years, but so far have not been sufficient to arouse the
neighborhood for a more auspicious future.
To all who shall see this land in the heart of Sao Paulo there will always be hope that the new
mechanisms created by the Master Plan 2014 along with other initiatives to keep alive the
essence of the neighborhood: the joy of the popular festivities; historic appeal of its
traditions, even invented; bohemia of their canteens, theaters and coffee shops; and in
particular the mixture of people that living there. / O pitoresco Bairro do Bixiga traz consigo um grande repertório para o imaginário da
população que o habita e que frequenta a região. Para alguns o bairro dos imigrantes
italianos, para outros o bairro dos negros fugidos é tido como um bairro tradicional para a
cidade.
Território rico e fértil no centro da cidade sofre com a degradação e latência por
projetos que alavanquem o seu desenvolvimento. Ao longo do tempo foi possível verificar
algumas inciativas que demonstravam preocupação com o futuro do bairro, como por
exemplo, os projetos do Parque da Grota, do Concurso Nacional de Ideias para a Renovação
Urbana e Preservação do Bixiga e do Programa Casa Paulista. Três projetos em três
diferentes épocas que demonstram a forma de um pensar que evoluiu ao longo dos anos,
entretanto até o momento não foram suficientes para despertar o bairro para um mais
futuro alvissareiro.
A todos que zelam por este território no coração de São Paulo sempre haverá
esperança de que os novos mecanismos criados pelo Plano Diretor de 2014 junto com outras
iniciativas possam manter viva a essência do bairro: a alegria das festas populares; apelo
histórico das suas tradições, mesmo que inventadas; a boemia de suas cantinas, teatros e
cafés; e em especial a mistura das pessoas que ali residem.
