Previous issue date: 2008-12-22 / The health concept was extended and the actions of promotion of the health had left of being exclusiveness of the sector health, having started to be also carried through for other actors. The school is one of these compulsory important ones for the fact of the pertaining to school environment to be a significant space in the formation of children in process of construction of the knowledge. In the school, the actions of health must count on the support of the professors. To know that knowledge the professors have on health must be the first step for the elaboration of forceful and excellent actions for the individual and the context where it is inserted. This research had as objective to analyze the knowledge of health of the professors of basic education I of the city of Fortaleza. One is about an analytical, transversal study of carried through quantitative nature with 257 professors of the 6 Regional Executive Secretariats (SER's). The data had been collected through questionnaires and analyzed through the Statistical Package he will be the Social Sciences (SPSS) - 13,0 and of the analysis of frequency of Bardin (1977). The results demonstrate that 80.2% had affirmed that health is a complete state of welfare physicist, mental; almost half of the participants, 43.6%, had affirmed that the work of the school how much to the health for the promotion of the citizenship and quality of life is important; more than the half of the professors, 64.2% had studied on the subject health during its formation; 41.2% had considered satisfactory the quality of these acquired information while 47.9% consider not-satisfactory, on the other hand, 65.0% are declared not to feel themselves prepared to work with the subject in the school. 80.9% know Curricular the Parameters National (PCN's) and 76.7% know that the health is one of the elencados transversal subjects in related documents. The reason alleged for the professors for the unpreparedness for the work with the subject health must it the lack of knowledge on the subject, 29.6%, or to the lack of didactic material, 28.8%. More than the half, 54.5%, find some difficulty to work with the subject health in the school and the reason alleged for the interviewed ones was the lack of specific qualification, 33.1%. We saw with the study that the professors of the city of Fortaleza know the health concept extended, know the PCN's, but still if they feel unprepared to work with the subject in the school. Our study it points the urgent necessity of course of qualification of professors to act as promotional of the health in the school and the envolvement of the professor in the actions of education in health in the school. / O conceito de saúde foi ampliado e as ações de promoção da saúde deixaram de ser exclusividade do setor saúde, passando a serem realizadas também por outros atores. A escola é um desses co-atores importantes pelo fato do ambiente escolar ser um espaço significativo na formação de crianças em processo de construção do conhecimento. Na escola, as ações de saúde devem contar com o apoio dos professores. Saber que conhecimentos os professores têm sobre saúde deve ser o primeiro passo para a elaboração de ações contundentes e relevantes para o indivíduo e o contexto em que ele está inserido. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar os conhecimentos de saúde dos professores do ensino fundamental I do município de Fortaleza. Trata-se de um estudo analítico, transversal de natureza quantitativa realizado com 257 professores das 6 Secretarias Executivas Regionais (SER's). Os dados foram coletados através de questionários e analisados através do Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) - 13.0 e da análise de freqüência de Bardin (1977). Os resultados demonstram que 80,2% afirmaram que saúde é um completo estado de bem estar físico, mental; quase metade dos participantes, 43,6%, afirmaram que é importante o trabalho da escola quanto à saúde para a promoção da cidadania e qualidade de vida; mais da metade dos professores, 64,2% estudaram sobre o tema saúde durante sua formação; 41,2% consideraram satisfatória a qualidade destas informações adquiridas enquanto 47,9% consideram não-satisfatória, em contrapartida, 65,0% declara-se não se sentir preparado para trabalhar com o tema na escola. 80,9% conhecem os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN's) e 76,7% sabem que a saúde é um dos temas transversais elencados nos referidos documentos. O motivo alegado pelos professores para o despreparo para o trabalho com o tema saúde deve-se à falta de conhecimento sobre o assunto, 29,6%, ou à falta de material didático, 28,8%. Mais da metade, 54,5%, encontram alguma dificuldade para trabalhar com o tema saúde na escola e o motivo alegado pelos entrevistados foi a falta de capacitação específica, 33,1%. Vimos com o estudo que os professores do município de Fortaleza conhecem o conceito ampliado de saúde, conhecem os PCN's, mas ainda se sentem despreparados para trabalhar com o tema na escola. Nosso estudo aponta a necessidade urgente de curso de capacitação de professores para atuarem como promotores da saúde na escola e do envolvimento do professor nas ações de educação em saúde na escola.
