The diploma thesis is focused on the consequences of the situation associated with the Covid- 19 pandemic, specifically of the consequences of the ban on visits of family members in retirement homes. The aim of the thesis is to determine the impact on the mental health, as well as on the attitude and quality of life in this period. The thesis is devided into theoretical part and empirical part. The theoretical part firstly introduces the concepts of "old age and aging" and the realted topic of "psychological changes in old age". A larger part of the theoretical part forming a chapter entitled "quality of life". Which is one of the key concepts permeating the entire thesis. The first part of this chapter introduces the term "quality of life" and its dimensions. The second part is focused on factors influencing quality of life and methids for its measurement. The third chapter of the theoretical part consists of a brief description of social services provided to elderly people with the focus on retirement homes. This part also describes possibilities of employment and work of a special educator in these facilities.
