Previous issue date: 2010 / This study aims to analyse the social role of the german press in Rio Grande do Sul, from the Kolonie newspaper on, from Santa Cruz do Sul, first publication directed to the german community in Rio Grande do Sul, to be edited out from the center formed between Porto Alegre and São Leopoldo. This Study will specially focus the feuilleton-novels, through which we will check the way in which it guaranteed the difusion of values among the members of the German- Brazilian community and its relations. The research will support itself on the theories from Ferdinand Tonnies, with his known contraposition between Community and Society; Zygmunt Bauman, with his ideas about community; a theory that bases on the Social Imaginary of the German-Brazilian and the Invented Tradition issues, defended by the thinker Eric Hobsbawn and, finally, a theory that serves us as a theorical instrument for the feuilleton analysis, which will be the Social Semiotic, whose main authors are Michael Halliday and Gunther Kress theory. In this way, through a bibliographic and qualitative research, seek with the translation of the feuilleton- novels, using the Ghotic German of the Kolonie newspaper from Santa Cruz do Sul, from 1891 to 1940, understand its influence in the spreading of the Germanity and its form of entail and identity with Germany, already emphasized before by Sérgio Caparelli. / Este estudo visa analisar o papel social da imprensa alemã no Rio Grande do Sul, a partir do jornal Kolonie, de Santa Cruz do Sul, primeira publicação dirigida à comunidade teutônica no Rio Grande do Sul, a ser editada fora do centro formado entre Porto Alegre e São Leopoldo. Este estudo focará especialmente os romances-folhetim, através dos quais verificaremos a maneira pela qual garantiu-se a difusão de valores entre os membros da comunidade teuto-brasileira e de seu entorno. A pesquisa sustentar-se-à nas teorias de Ferdinand Tönnies, com a sua conhecida contraposição entre Comunidade e Sociedade; Zygmunt Bauman; com sua ideias acerca da Comunidade; uma teoria que embase o Imaginário Social dos teuto-brasileiros, a questão das Tradições Inventadas, defendidas pelo pensador Eric Hobsbawn e finalmente, uma teoria que nos sirva de instrumento teórico para a análise dos romances-folhetim, que será a Semiótica Social, cujos principais autores são Michael Halliday e Gunther Kress. Dessa forma, através de uma pesquisa bibliográfica e qualitativa, buscar-se-à, com as traduções dos romancesfolhetim, a partir do alemão gótico, do jornal Kolonie, de Santa Cruz do Sul, no período de 1891 a 1940, entender a sua influência na propagação da germanidade e sua forma de vínculo e identidade com a Alemanha, já destacados anteriormente por Sérgio Caparelli.
