Previous issue date: 2007 / The study of correlation of elements of demand with the sentence is the object of this work. Examining the norm of congruence have been noticed its exact relationship with Democratic State of Law and the influence of its values in the Brazilian civil procedural law. After contextualize the subject searched in the current law, part itself to an investigation of the reach, limitations and performance of the rule that provides that the sentence should being astrict to facts and requests spent by litigants. Attention turns around, then, for the study of request and of cause to ask, listing them with the reasoning and device sentential as well the defects arising from of correlation between these elements. Finally, are analyzed the situations of substantive law that, when run in the process, provide exceptions to rule of astriction. / O estudo da correlação dos elementos da demanda com a sentença é o objeto do presente trabalho. Ao examinar-se a norma da congruência, percebe-se sua precisa relação com o Estado Democrático de Direito e a influência de seus valores no direito processual civil brasileiro. Após contextualizar o objeto pesquisado na ordem jurídica vigente, parte-se para uma investigação do alcance, limitações e atuação da regra que determina que a sentença deva estar adstrita aos fatos e pedidos despendidos pelos litigantes. A atenção volta-se, então, para o estudo do pedido e da causa de pedir, relacionando-os com a fundamentação e o dispositivo sentencial, bem como os vícios decorrentes da falta de correlação entre esses elementos. Por fim, são analisadas as situações de direito material que, ao serem veiculadas no processo, estabelecem exceções à regra da adstrição.
