Previous issue date: 2007-08-31 / The area between S?o Bento do Norte and Macau cities, located in the northern coast of the Rio Grande do Norte State is submitted to intense and constant processes of littoral and aeolian transport, causing erosion, alterations in the sediments balance and modifications in the shoreline. Beyond these natural factors, the human interference is huge in the surroundings, composed by sensitive places, due to the existence of the Guamar? Petroliferous Pole, RN, the greater terrestrial oil producing in Brazil, besides the activities of the salt companies and shrimp farms. This socioeconomic-environmental context justifies the elaboration of strategies of environmental monitoring of that coastal area. In the environmental monitoring of coastal strips, submitted to human impacts, the use of multi-sources and multitemporal data integrated through a Spatio- Temporal Database that allows the multiuser friendly access. The objective was to use the potential of the computational systems as important tools the managers of environmental monitoring. The stored data in the form of a virtual library aid in making decisions from the related results and presented in different formats. This procedure enlarges the use of the data in the preventive attendance, in the planning of future actions and in the definition of new lines of researches on the area, in a multiscale approach. Another activity of this Thesis consisted on the development of a computational system to automate the process to elaborate Oil-Spill Environmental Sensitivity Maps, based on the temporal variations that some coastal ecosystems present in the sensibility to the oil. The maps generated in this way, based on the methodology proposed by the Minist?rio do Meio Ambiente, supply more updated information about the behavior of the ecosystem, as a support to the operations in case of oil spill. Some parameters, such as the hydrodynamic data, the declivity of the beach face, types of resources in risk (environmental, economical, human or cultural) and use and occupation of the area are some of the essential basic information in the elaboration of the sensitivity maps, which suffer temporal alterations.In this way, the two computational systems developed are considered support systems to the decision, because they provide operational subsidies to the environmental monitoring of the coastal areas, considering the transformations in the behavior of coastal elements resulting from temporal changes related the human and/or natural interference of the environment / A ?rea entre S?o Bento do Norte e Macau, no litoral setentrional do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte, caracteriza-se por sofrer constantes processos de transporte litor?neo e e?lico que causam altera??es no balan?o de sedimentos e modifica??es no tra?ado da linha de costa. Al?m desses fatores naturais, a interfer?ncia antr?pica ? ampla nas adjac?ncias, composta por trechos ambientalmente sens?veis, como demonstra a presen?a do P?lo Petrol?fero de Guamar?/RN, o maior produtor terrestre de petr?leo do Brasil, al?m das atividades da ind?stria salineira e da carcinicultura. Este contexto socioecon?mico-ambiental justifica a elabora??o de estrat?gias de monitoramento ambiental dessa ?rea costeira. No monitoramento ambiental de faixas litor?neas alvo de impactos antr?picos ? imprescind?vel o emprego de dados multifontes e multitemporais integrados por meio de um Banco de Dados Espa?o-Temporal que permita o acesso amig?vel de multiusu?rios. O objetivo foi utilizar a potencialidade dos sistemas computacionais como ferramentas importantes no subs?dio ?s tomadas de decis?es por parte dos gestores do monitoramento ambiental. Os dados coletados e armazenados na forma de uma biblioteca virtual auxiliam nas tomadas de decis?es a partir dos resultados relacionados e apresentados em diferentes formatos. Este procedimento amplia o uso dos dados no acompanhamento preventivo, sobre o comportamento do ecossistema, como suporte ?s opera??es de conten??o em caso de derramamento de ?leo. Alguns par?metros, como os dados hidrodin?micos, a declividade da face de praia. tipos de recursos em risco (ambiental, econ?mico, humano ou cultural) e uso e ocupa??o da ?rea s?o alguns dos tipos de informa??es b?sicas essenciais dos mapas de sensibilidade e que sofrem altera??es temporais. Deste modo, os dois sistemas computacionais desenvolvidos s?o considerados sistemas de apoio ? decis?o, pois fornecem subs?dios operacionais ao monitoramento ambiental das ?reas costeiras, considerando as transforma??es no comportamento dos elementos costeiros decorrentes das mudan?as temporais inerentes da interfer?ncia humana e/ou natural do ambiente
