The purpose of this literature study was to examine honour-related violence in Sweden along with the underlying reasons behind and mechanisms that fuel the presence of honourculture in a western society aswell as what has been reported about the efforts of social work regarding to honor-related violence. The study observes the conditions of the lives of the victims and perpetrators of honour-culture in an effort to gain full appreciation of the situation these people live in and the struggles they may face in conducting daily life. Political aswell as societal factors are also contemplated due to the controversial nature of the phenomenon in the western hemisphere. The main purpose of the study was to examine the honour-culture- related conditions in Sweden but to fully grasp the situation, an international perspective has been examined. To conduct this study the author reviewed previously existing research on honour culture and honour-related violence and social work in this field and synthesized the results from a social constructivistic viewpoint. This poses a problem for social workers who find difficulties in navigating through undefined guidelines and legal framework which tends to lead to poorly implemented and arbitrary interventions which in certain cases may lead to additional dismay for the clients.
