This study aims to explore how women on Gotland define networking, what motivates them to network and what benefits they get from their networking. This is done by examining networking from the perspective of those who actively experience and engage in it in the form of a qualitative case-study. The study covers all forms of networking, both professional and private. Empirical data was gathered through ten semi-structured interviews where the participating women shared their stories, experiences and opinions about networking on Gotland. A thematic analysis identified key themes, which were then analyzed using social capital theory and needs theory. The study shows that women's networking on Gotland is mainly about building bonding social capital, with like-minded people. They are motivated by the opportunity to give and receive care, expressed through helpfulness, community and belonging. This is linked to the need for affiliation and to some part the need for achievement in needs theory. This study also raises the question of whether care is missing from professional networking and whether this is why women seek other networking arenas to fulfill their needs.
