Previous issue date: 1982 / The purpose of this essay is the comparative study of the process of occupancy of two land developments on the outskirts of São Paulo, located in the municipality of Taboão da Serra. To this end, two undertaking, realized in dif ferent periods and destined for the population in the lower income brackets, were selected. Neither of the two properties had the advantage of any urban infrastructure or public services at the time they were offered to subscribers. In this way the. properties were offered to classes of low income population, who would not have been able to meet the price of property located in areas with more advanced urbanization. The comparative analysis of the samples of dwellers in the two lots of land development indicated that (a) the families established in the property which had been divided .into lots attheeàrlier date, tended to belong to superior income groups to those living in. the property developed afterwardsi (b) the family income of the first group tended to be higher than that of the second grouPi (c) in both cases the families existed in a high state of ,social isolation; (d) there was a difference in the composition of the family in- .come between the two groups of dwellers. Such change in composition of the family income which occurs wheri. the children grow up and start to help with - 101 - the cost of maintaining a home seems to be an important factor in the radication of the family in certain areas. The analysis of the lots of the property developed in the first place permits the affirmation that the first dwellers of an area are not necessarily driven away as the area bes more organized. On the other hand, the research of the property developed more recently, completely wanting, revealed that the majority of families purchased their lots 'ofland, attracted by the prospect of living in their own house and had not been driven away from other areas. / A presente monografia tem por foco de estudo os loteamentos populares que são a forma mais usual de produção produção de habitação para a população-de-baixa renda nas grandes cidades brasileiras. A margem dos programas habitacionais empreendidos por organismos estatais, por demais burocratizados e ínfimos se comparados à demanda que deveriam suprir, os loteamentos periféricos empreendidos por particulares sempre existiram nos arredores das grandes cidades.
