Previous issue date: 2008-03 / A expansão das lavouras de cana-de-açúcar na região do Triângulo Mineiro é reflexo do processo de modernização da agricultura que afeta as áreas de cerrado do Brasil central. Caracteriza-se pela incorporação de novos objetos produtivos e de lógicas operacionais que passam a definir as novas formas de apropriação da natureza e da produção do espaço geográfico associado à essa cadeia produtiva. Defini-se também pelas interações escalares que projetam a região às escalas mais amplas da globalização, transformando o papel das localidades na racionalidade da rede urbana do período atual. O objetivo principal desta pesquisa é identificar e compreender as mudanças que a expansão da cultura da cana-deaçúcar produz no território. Pretende dessa forma, identificar e compreender as transformações provocadas pela expansão desta atividade produtiva nos subsistemas que compõem o arranjo territorial do Triângulo Mineiro, particularmente os subsistemas políticoinstitucional, econômico, social e ambiental. Partindo desses objetivos, levantamos a hipótese de que esta expansão estaria provocando alterações consideráveis no arranjo territorial regional, justamente nestes subsistemas citados acima. Para o reconhecimento destas transformações foram analisadas as políticas públicas setoriais, nas escalas federal, estadual e municipal; evolução do Produto Interno Bruto e a distribuição do Valor Adicionado Corrente para cada setor da economia municipal; a evolução do Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano Municipal e os possíveis impactos ambientais positivos e negativos derivados desta atividade produtiva. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The expansion of the sugar cane crops in the Triangulo Mineiro region is result of the process of modernization of the agriculture that affects the areas of cerrado located at the central portion of Brazil. It is characterized for the incorporation of new productive objects and operational logics that start to define the new forms of nature appropriation and the production of the geographic space associate to this productive chain. It is also defined for the scale interactions that project the region to the amplest scales of globalization, transforming the role of the localities into the rationality of the urban net of the current period. The main objective of this research is to identify and to understand the changes that the expansion of the sugar cane culture produces in the territory. It intends therefore, to identify and to understand the transformations provoked by the expansion of this productive activity in the subsystems that compose the territorial arrangement of the Triangulo Mineiro, particularly the politicianinstitucional, economic, social and environmental subsystems.Throughout this objetives, the hypothesis raised is that this expansion would be provoking considerable alterations in the regional territorial arrangement, mainly in these subsystems listed above. For the recognition of these transformations the sectorial public politics had been analyzed, in the federal, state and municipal scales; evolution of the Gross Domestic Product and the distribution of the Added Value Index for each sector of the municipal economy; the evolution of the Human Development Index and the possible positive and negative environmental impacts derived from this productive activity.
