Previous issue date: 2017-06-30 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior (CAPES) / A cultura ? um elemento presente em cada indiv?duo o qual o caracteriza como sendo pertencente a uma determinada sociedade, per?odo e espa?o. Esse fator pode ser externalizado atrav?s do patrim?nio, sendo ele material ou imaterial. Esse elemento contribui para motivar que as pessoas se desloquem de seus locais de origem para vivenciar uma realidade distinta da sua e conhecer alguns locais que se destacam por valorizar a sua hist?ria. Dessa forma, as cidades que possuem esse potencial para o turismo cultural se utilizam dessa oportunidade para fomentar a atividade e promover esse interc?mbio. Esse ? o caso do munic?pio de Areia, localizada na regi?o do Brejo Paraibano, no estado da Para?ba. ?nico n?cleo urbano tombado do estado, ela tem como uma de suas principais atividades o turismo, atrav?s da visita??o aos seus pr?dios hist?ricos, museus e engenhos produtores de cacha?a e rapadura. Com esse destaque, a atividade tur?stica vem gerando transforma??es no munic?pio e, para investigar esse contexto, a pesquisa tem como objetivo principal analisar se a atividade tur?stica e as a??es realizadas em prol do seu fomento t?m contribu?do para o desenvolvimento do munic?pio de Areia. Como procedimento metodol?gico, a pesquisa se caracteriza como sendo de natureza explorat?ria e descritiva, no qual foram utilizados os m?todos de observa??o e entrevista para a pesquisa de campo de car?ter qualitativo. Atrav?s dos dados coletados e da percep??o dos atores locais, foi poss?vel compreender que Areia ainda n?o se configura como um destino consolidado, entretanto, nos ?ltimos anos, a atividade vem gerando um fluxo de pessoas constante na cidade e gerando oportunidades, principalmente para os empres?rios locais e uma parte da popula??o. Todavia, ? uma cidade hist?rica que possui um grande potencial e que tem muitas possiblidades de desenvolvimento, tanto com rela??o ao turismo como tamb?m a pr?pria estrutura da cidade. / Culture is an element present in each individual which characterizes it as belonging to a certain society, period and space. This factor can be externalized through cultural heritage, being material or immaterial. This element contributes to motivate people to move from their places of origin to experience a reality different from their own and to know some places that stand out for valuing their history. In this way, cities that have this potential for cultural tourism use this opportunity to promote the activity and promote this exchange. This is the case of Areia, located in the region of Brejo Paraibano, in the state of Para?ba. The only historical urban nucleus of the state, it has as one of its main activities the tourism, through the visitation to its historical buildings, museums and mills producing cacha?a and rapadura. With this emphasis, the tourism activity has been generating transformations in the city and, to investigate this context, the main objective of the research is to analyze if the tourism activity and the actions carried out in your favor have contributed to the development of Areia. As a methodological procedure, the research is characterized as being exploratory and descriptive, in which the methods of observation and interview for qualitative field research were used. Through the data collected and the perception of local agents, it was possible to understand that Areia is not yet a consolidated destination, however, in recent years, activity has been generating a steady stream of people in the city and generating opportunities, especially for businessmen and part of the population. However, it is a historic city that has great potential and that has many possibilities of development, both with regard to tourism as well as the structure of the city.
