O foco deste trabalho são os estudantes de origem popular da Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), contemplados com o beneficio de Bolsa Moradia da Pró-Reitoria de Ações Afirmativas e Assistência Estudantil (PROAE). Esta temática descreve a instituição Universidade como elemento de mudança na vida de tais estudantes, no período de 2006 a 2013. Para a realização desta pesquisa, tomou-se como referência a literatura que aborda o assunto e os documentos legais, em especial os decretos federais que estabelecem o Programa de Apoio a Planos de Reestruturação e Expansão das Universidades Federais (REUNI) e o Programa Nacional de Assistência Estudantil (PNAES). Em contexto de expansão do ensino superior e democratização da sociedade brasileira, esses programas ampliam e asseguram bolsas para a permanência nas universidades de estudantes com perfil de vulnerabilidade socioeconômica. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, que analisa as percepções dos estudantes sobre o Programa Bolsa Moradia, tendo caráter exploratório por focar uma área ainda não estudada no âmbito das universidades brasileiras. Elegeu- se como população investigada os estudantes beneficiados com o Programa Bolsa Moradia nos campi de Salvador. A fim de confirmar os dados pesquisados, foi aplicado um questionário online, para 201 estudantes, de ambos os sexos, de vários cursos, oriundos, em sua maior parte, do interior da Bahia. Este instrumento metodológico contemplou questões abertas e fechadas, o que possibilitou identificar as percepções dos discentes sobre o impacto da bolsa moradia na sua permanência na Universidade. Os resultados apontam para a necessidade de ampliação desse tipo de programa de permanência, reafirmando a importância da Bolsa Moradia para os estudantes de origem popular da UFBA. / ABSTRACT
The focus of this research is on the students of popular origin of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBa), awarded the benefit of housing assistance from the Affirmative Action and Student Assistance Office (PROAE). It describes the University as an element of change in the lives of these students in the period from 2006 to 2013. For this study, the literature that addresses the issue as well as legal documents were taken as reference, particularly the federal decrees which establish the Supporting Program for the Restructuring and Expansion of Federal Universities - REUNI (REUNI) and the National Student Assistance Program (PNAES), was taken as reference. In the context of expansion of higher education and democratization of the Brazilian society, these programs expand and ensure the continuation of scholarships for students with socioeconomic vulnerability profile. This is a qualitative study, which analyzes the student perceptions of the housing scholarship program, with exploratory perspective as it focuses on an area, not yet studied, in the context of Brazilian universities. The population who were chosen to be investigated were the students who benefited from the housing scholarship program on the campi in Salvador.In order to confirm the data, an online survey has been administered to 201 students of both sexes and various courses, mostly from the countryside of Bahia. This methodological instrument encompassed open and closed questions, which enabled us to identify the perceptions of students about the impact of the benefit during their trajectory in UFBa. The results point to the need for restructuring and expansion of this program in order to qualify the student permanence policy in UFBA.
