Apresenta-se a relação entre a ação afirmativa e o princípio da igualdade; um breve histórico do movimento negro e sua contribuição para a implantação da política de cotas no meio educacional e a experiência da política de cotas adotada em algumas universidades brasileiras. Pesquisam-se as percepções dos estudantes em relação ao sistema de cotas na Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) colhidas através de entrevistas feitas com alunos não cotistas e cotistas. Analisam-se as experiências vividas por alunos cotistas e verifica-se como se apresenta a questão no que diz respeito ao preconceito e à discriminação. Este trabalho permitiu visualizar alguns aspectos positivos e negativos que a política de cotas traz para o público alvo e possibilita que novas reflexões possam ser feitas. O questionamento por meio das entrevistas com os alunos da UFSC os remeteram a um apreço acerca da política das ações afirmativas e sua influência no meio acadêmico. Os resultados da pesquisa, dados os limites de um TCC, apontam para o fato de que os aspectos positivos da política de cotas superam os aspectos negativos. / This work approach to the issue of affirmative action policies for the quota system in higher education. It shows the relationship between affirmative action and the principle of equality; a brief history of the black movement and its contribution to the implementation of the quota policy in the educational environment and the experience of quota policy adopted in some universities. It was researched the students' perceptions related to the quota system in the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) collected through interviews with no quota students and quota students. The experiences of quota students were analyzed and it was verified how is presented the issue with regard to prejudice and discrimination. This work allowed to realized some positive and negative aspects that the quota policy brings to the target audience and enables new reflections can be made. The question through interviews with students of the UFSC forwarded them to an esteem about the policy of affirmative action and its influence in academia. The results of the research, given the limits of a TCC, point to the fact that the positive aspects of the quota policy overcome the negative aspects.
