This thesis concerns with the comparative analysis of three world centres and is divided into three chapters. The first part deals with competitiveness, its concept, determinants and measurement. Then it focuses on economic policy, where are explained the basic concepts, main directions and its relation to competitiveness. The second part analyzes three world centres on the basis of selected indicators. Furthermore, it is derived their SWOT analysis from this chapter. The third chapter is aimed at the economic prospects of the European Union and its Member States. The result of thesis is a recommendation for individual economies, notably the EU.
